India cricket tour 2006 to south africa 2nd Test match started on December 26, 2006 at Durban. South Africa win the toss and elected to bat first with Kallis not playing in the match. It was fantastic fisrt session for india, they do not give many runs and picks up 3 important wickets. But then after Gibbs and Prince take on the charge and played sensibaly. While Gibbs loves palying in his style with superb knocks, Prince playing carefully. After Gibbs out on 63, Boucher joined hands with Prince and played an important innings of 53. But in the end India picks up 3 quick wickets and manage to restrict them to 257/8 from 256/5. Overall mixed day for both India and South Africa.

India trail by 225 runs with 7 wickets left in their first innings.

It was superb innings from AG Prince (121) and very good support from South Africa tail enders. In the end South Africa manage scroe of 328. Virender Sehwag started Indian innings continuing his weak from once again out for duck. Tendulkar played some good knocks after Rahul Dravid out immediately after the lunch (35/2). He and Laxman took India innings to 103 when once again bed light stops the play early.

South Africa lead by 152 runs with 10 wickets left in their second innings.

It was very good begaining on the 3rd day as Tendulkar was playing superb innings. But Ntini manage to take wicket of Tendulkar when he was looking dangerous for them. Then after no one manage to stand at the other end when Laxan was playing some important innings. In the end Indian innings collaps to 240. Overall it was the day for South Africa, they started their second innings comfortably and without loosing any wicktes they are in commanding position with lead of 152.

India need 316 more runs win the match with 8 wickets left.

India failed to take an advantage of the collapse of South Africa innings. They collaps to 143/6 from 99 without loss, but then Shaun Pollock and Andrew Hall played sensible innings and added important 70 to thier score. And then Shaun Pollock and Morne Morkel added another 52 to their score. South Africa declared their innings on 265 wiht the target for india 354. An early brek-through from Ntini puts South Africa closed to the winning situation.

Bad light did not help India to save the match. It was firing from Ntini and Indian top order collapsed dramatically. Only Dhoni (47) could play some good stroke. In the end South Africa win the match by 174 runs and levels the series by 1-1.
