Fight For Semi Final Cricket World Cup 2007

South Africa defeat against New Zealand creates hope for England, West Indies and Bangladesh to enter into the Semi Final of Cricket World Cup 2007. Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka have already entered in to the Semi Finals and the positions of other teams are as following. South Africa now have 6 points with 1 match left against England. England having 4 points and 2 matches left where as West Indies and Bangladesh having 2 points each with 2 matches left. Everything depends on the match between South Africa and England on 17th April. This current position lead to the following possible Scenario.

If South Africa win against England.

In this case South Africa will easily enter into Semi Final stage with having 8 points. This will end the battle for Semi Final and the remaining matches will be of less interest. Then Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa will enter to the Semi Final stage.

If South Africa loose against England.

In this scenario the road to the semi final would be an easy for England. England will be equal to the South Africa with 6 points each but on the Run Rate side England is above South Africa. And this will lead to the following possibilities.

• If England win the next match against West Indies then they will make for the Semi Final.
• If England loose against West Indies there will be 3 teams with equal points West Indies or Bangladesh, South Africa and England. In this case looking at the current Net Run Rate England will have advantage over other two teams. So for West Indies the situations are more tight as they have to win with high margin so as to boost their NRR. Similarly there is chance for Bangladesh too, but they need to do some extraordinary to with both the matches again Ireland and West Indies with high margins.
